Description

Spring Landscape with booming cherry blossoms. Painted with ink and pigments on silk. The part appeared bold on the mountain in the scene is a trace of the event called Daimonji no Okuribi, or Mountain Bonfire, which is a traditional bonfire that lights on the mountain the kanji Chinese character "大" which means "big".

Maekawa Bunrei(1837-1917)was a Kyoto born Japanese painter. He was a son of Maekawa Gorei(1805-1874). Bunrei learned painting from his father and excelled at bird and flower paintings.

Some insignificant tiny crease, insignificant light marks and foxing are present on the painting itself,otherwise it is in very good condition. The scroll mounting is aged with some light marks, light damage on the tassel called "futai" hanging from the top present. It is accompanied by an original paulownia wood storage box.
